Sam Horton is our lead trumpeter and has made a big impact in a very short space of time…
” I started playing cornet at age 11, moved to trumpet when I was 16. In addition to cornet and trumpet I also play the violin. I love my instruments equally, although I have a special soft spot for my violin as it was handmade by my Grandad.
“My initial impression of the Band was friendly faces, a good range of music, and birthday cake! [We usually celebrate members’ birthdays! – Editor’s note] I love the joyful atmosphere where people of all ages and standards, who love making music, can come and enjoy themselves.
“I have only been in the Band for about 5 months, but even so, choosing a favourite piece from the music I have played so far is a tough choice. I think it would have to be ‘Moment for Morricone’ which was really good fun and a great challenge!
“I work as a primary school teacher. As well as music I play cricket and football, enjoy the gym and like to travel.
To anyone thinking of joining or coming for a listen – please do! This is a great crowd, really friendly and everyone is here to enjoy making some really fantastic music! “
