The Winslow Concert Band is a true community band, welcoming musicians of all ages and standards. Less experienced musicians get plenty of encouragement from more experienced members and from our Acting Musical Director, Jane Hubble. Members agree that their playing, especially their sight-reading, has improved since they joined, and the overall standard of the Band continues to progress. We play at local events throughout the year, and generally present a concert to family and friends or friends once or twice a year. The sociable aspect of the group is important, and, as well as the more serious business of playing music, we run an active social calendar throughout the year.
Where are we based?
Winslow is situated on the A413 between Buckingham and Aylesbury in North Buckinghamshire. It is approximately 4.5 miles from Buckingham and 12 miles from Aylesbury.
Where do we rehearse?
At Winslow Public Hall, Elmfields Gate, Winslow MK18 3JA, which is situated off of the Main A413 at Elmfields Gate, behind the Royal British Legion, and opposite the sports fields. There is a car park in front of the hall off Elmfields Gate, or if that is full, the Greyhound Lane car park is immediately behind the hall and is easily accessible.
If for any reason we are unable to use the Winslow Public Hall we try to find an alternative venue. This will be posted on the website and members will generally be informed via email.
When do we rehearse?
Every Thursday evening at 7:30pm to 9:30pm with a short break around 8.30pm.
The only time we don’t meet is over Christmas when we will normally have a two-week break.
Who to contact?
For information about joining the Band, or how to book us please call us on 0345 459 1994 or send our secretary an e-mail.
For publicity please email our publicity officer.
Vacancies
We generally welcome players of any age or playing ability (although we usually suggest grade 3 and above) in any section. In most cases we don’t limit the number of members we have playing any one instrument. The exception to this is where too many in a section can overpower the rest of the Band, unless we ask the players to play unreasonably quietly much of the time.
Winslow Concert Band Constitution
As an amateur community music organisation we are keen to welcome players of all ages, abilities and backgrounds and to function fairly and without prejudice. We operate under The Winslow Concert Band Constitution, which was last reviewed in 2019.
