Paul How joined the Band in 2001 to play the trombone, but it was short of a conductor, so he stepped into the role and has been there ever since!
“I was 12 when I started playing the trombone, so have now been playing for 45 years! I also play the euphoniuim, tuba – really all brass instruments, and also the saxophone. But the trombone has always been my first love.
“When I took over we were only a small ensemble of about 14 instruments but now it has grown to around 45 players. I like all the music we play, obviously, but my all-time favourite is ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’.
For my ‘day job’ I work as a catering manager for Bannatynes Gym. I am also an Army Cadet Force Training Instructor, helping to teach music to young adults.
I am always learning and trying to improve the Band, and was never prouder than when we won our class at this year’s MK Music Festival. I have been playing in competitions with brass bands all my life, but have never won anything. So this was really special and rewarding for the hard work we put into it in the weeks leading up to the competition.”
