The Winslow Concert Band celebrated their 25th Birthday in style yesterday at a party they held in Tomkins Park, Winslow. The Band played a varied programme of music chosen to represent different aspects and events that have happened during their first twenty-five years.
The Grand Finale comprised of three pieces of particular significance. “Winslow Tableaux”, a piece all about Winslow, was commissioned to celebrate their 20th Anniversary in 2014 and written by Colin Touchin who made a return visit to conduct the piece. This was followed by “Moment for Morricone” conducted by Assistant Musical Director Jane Hubble, which the Band played to win their class at MK Music Festival earlier this year. The 1812 Overture was the final piece, chosen by Musical Director Paul How as a piece he has always wanted to conduct, complete with “cannon effects” provided by the audience who were supplied with balloons to burst at the appropriate moment!
Also entertaining the audience were the U3A Bobcats and the Buckingham Ukulele Group, who played some great popular tunes including “Eight Days a Week”, “Maggie May”, “I Can See Clearly Now”, “Hi Ho Silver Lining” – just to mention a few.

- Colin Touchin for being our guest conductor and in particular for leading us in “Winslow Tableaux”.
- The Community First Responders for providing First Aid facilities
- The Band’s Charity of the Year “Fight Bladder Cancer”, Buckinghamshire Freemasons, Winslow Men in Sheds and Winslow History for coming along to talk to people about their organisations.
