Do you play a woodwind or brass instrument? We are holding an Open Evening on Thursday 12th November during normal Band practice hours – 7.30pm – 9.30pm (and afterwards at the pub if you have the stamina!).
All woodwind, brass and drums/percussion players are welcome, although we are particularly keen to recruit trumpet, trombone and French horn players. There are no age restrictions – we currently have members ranging from as young as 11 to our most senior members who are well over 70!
We play a wide range of music, so normally recommend that you are at least of a standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade 3. This means you are likely to be able at least to follow the music and play some of it. However, we have had players join who have been less experienced, and, as long as you are not disheartened if you can’t play very much in the early stages, we are very much a community band and happy for you to join in. The Open Evening gives you a chance to come along and have a go. We also have a Foundation Band that normally meets before the main band rehearsal on a Thursday evening to give less experienced player the opportunity to play simpler music and practice trickier passages in detail.
There is no charge for visitors to the Open Evening and there will be no pressure to join the Band straight away, indeed we are happy for you to attend up to four rehearsals before making that decision.
What have you got to lose? We hope to see you there!
