The Winslow Concert band was formed in 1994 by Peter Moore. The music played was mostly classical, but over the years our Musical Directors Colin Harmsworth and our present Musical Director, Paul How, have introduced a variety of musical genres including big band, jazz, musicals, film themes and compilation hits of popular singers such as Frank Sinatra and Tom Jones.
From a small rehearsal room in the Winslow Centre the band has now progressed to a larger venue. At present we have a membership of around forty playing a variety of Brass, Woodwind and Percussion. Members ages range from 12 to 80, and of all playing standards. Membership consists of friends and families drawn from an area spreading from all around the Winslow vicinity like Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, Buckingham, Bicester and a few of the villages in between.
The Band has performed at various fetes and venues around the county, at Christmas we regularly perform at Middleton Hall in Milton Keynes and Friars Square in Aylesbury. In summer we can be seen at Nether Heyford, and the Winslow Show. We also hold an annual Winter concert which has proved to be very popular with people in and around the local area.
In 2005 the band created a new appointment, that of Band President. This position was filled by a great supporter of local music and musicians, that being, Cllr Robin Stutchbury. He continues to be a tireless supporter of the band and raises our profile at every opportunity.
